Walker Evening Book Talk Club is happy to announce the next few books in the series, and also a time change due to the change in library hours.
Meetings will still be held on the first Thursday of the month. However, the meetings will now begin at 5:45pm rather than 6pm. As of April 29, the library will close at 7pm on Thursday.
Now on to the book choices!
Next month, we’re traveling through time and across an ocean to read A Very Long Engagement by Sebastien Japrisot. It is the story of a young French woman who loses her soldier boyfriend under mysterious circumstances during WWI. Unwilling to believe he is gone from this world, she sets off to solve the mystery of his disappearance and the disappearance of four other soldiers. We will meet at 5:45pm on Thursday, May 3 to discuss this novel. Jean-Pierre Jeunet, director of Amelie, also directed an incredible film of the same name based on the novel. Here is the trailer:
If you’ve ever listened to This American Life on NPR, you may have heard the voice of Sarah Vowell. She writes about American history with intelligence, a unique perspective, and a sardonic, self-depreciating wit. A few months back we followed her on journey to the sites of America’s presidential assassinations in Assassination Vacation. In June, she’ll tell us the story of the beginnings of our country, the Puritans and Massachusetts in The Wordy Shipmates. The meeting to discuss this book will be on Thursday, June 7 at 5:45pm. Here it is in our catalog.
We’re always looking for new members, old members, and book suggestions!
